Dyersburg State Community College Mace

Dyersburg State Community College’s Mace, an ornamental staff, is a symbol of authority and tradition in academics. The mace is displayed at formal ceremonies and events where faculty and administrators are in full academic regalia and is carried by a designated mace bearer. The mace is made of oak wood to symbolize strength and stability and includes the College’s official seal at the top. An inscription of the names of the College’s Presidents and years of service is found on the handle of the mace (Dr. E.B. Eller 1969-1981, Dr. Carl Anderson 1981-1984, Dr. Karen A. Bowyer 1984-present). The mace was donated to the institution in 2019 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the College by Ms. Amy Johnson, Ms. Julie Frazier, and Dr. Jimmy Barham, the three academic deans. Mace woodwork was completed by Mr. Ashley Blair and the seal was crafted by Mr. Brett Heinemeyer, an alumnus of Dyersburg State.
