03:01:09:00 Guidelines for Faculty Credentials

Purpose:

The purpose of this policy is to establish guidelines to use in evaluating faculty credentials of candidates for full-time and adjunct faculty positions at Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC).

Scope:

This policy applies to all full-time and adjunct faculty members.

Policy:

Responsibility for faculty credentials for instructional programs rests with the Division Deans, Assistant Vice President for Learning, Vice President for the College and the President. Success in the classroom, experience in the discipline and education stand foremost among the credentials for faculty members. Where it is determined by the administration that a faculty member best qualified to fill the position does not hold the appropriate formal academic preparation, the Dean of the Division or Assistant Vice President for Learning will document experience or any other special circumstances that would qualify the faculty member for the position advertised. Within the framework of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACS) Comprehensive Standard 3.7.1. and the SACS-COC Guidelines for Faculty Credentials, DSCC has adopted the following guidelines:

Associate Degree General Education Courses Designed for Transfer
Full-time and part-time faculty teaching general education courses designed for transfer to the baccalaureate degree must possess a ¬¬¬¬¬doctoral or a master’s degree in the teaching discipline, a master’s degree with a concentration in the teaching discipline (a minimum of eighteen graduate semester hours in the teaching discipline) or related education and experience in the teaching discipline.

Associate Degree Courses Designed for Transfer
Full-time and part-time faculty teaching associate degree courses designed for transfer to the baccalaureate degree must possess a doctoral or a master’s degree in the teaching discipline, a master’s degree with a concentration in the teaching discipline (a minimum of eighteen graduate semester hours in the teaching discipline) or related education and experience in the teaching discipline.

Associate Degree Courses not Designed for Transfer
Full-time and part-time faculty teaching associate degree courses not designed for transfer to the baccalaureate degree must possess a bachelor’s degree in the teaching discipline, an associate’s degree in the teaching discipline and demonstrated competencies in the teaching discipline or related experience in the teaching discipline.

Compliance:

All DSCC full-time faculty and adjunct instructors must comply with this policy.
