03:01:05:10 Adjunct Faculty Teaching Load

Purpose:

The purpose of this policy is to establish maximum teaching loads for adjunct faculty members at Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC).

Scope:

This policy applies to the Division Deans, the Assistant Vice President for Learning and adjunct faculty members.

Policy:

The teaching load for adjunct faculty is determined by need and will not exceed twelve (12) teaching load equivalent (TLE) hours per semester. Any exceptions to 12 TLE hours per semester must be made by the President upon recommendation of the Vice President for the College. Supervising a laboratory and other special types of instruction are equated at various rates. Adjunct faculty serve as temporary employees of the College, and all assignments are subject to availability. The Dean of the Division and Discipline Coordinators for Learning determine course assignments pending the approval of the Vice President for the College and the President. Scheduled class meetings are an implied contract between the college and the student. Instructors are expected to meet for the duration of the scheduled times.

Non-exempt employees of DSCC will be considered for adjunct appointments only in emergency situations when other, qualified faculty are not available.

All College administrators, faculty, and adjunct faculty will comply with this policy.
