Purpose:

The purpose of this policy is to explain the system of governance of the institutions of higher education in Tennessee.

Scope:

This policy applies to all faculty and staff members at Dyersburg State Community College.

Policy:

The Tennessee Board of Regents, the governing board of the College System of Tennessee, was established pursuant to chapter 838 of the 1972 Public Acts of Tennessee. The TBR has 18 members including the Governor of the State of Tennessee, the Executive Director of the Tennessee Higher Education Commission, the Commissioner of Agriculture, the Commissioner of Education as ex officio members, as well as a faculty and student regent from one of the institutions. The TBR is the governing board for public higher education in the State of Tennessee.
The function of the TBR is to provide broad policy for the operation of the system’s institutions. The authority, purpose, and duties of the Board are included in the Board’s bylaws and TBR Policies on governance, numbers 1:01:00:00 through 1:10:00:00. Policies for the operation of the system were approved in Board minutes and published as Policies under the following categories: academic; business and finance; governance, organization and general; personnel; student; sexual discrimination/harassment/misconduct; and safety and security.
