Purpose:
The purpose of this policy is to outline the procedures for evaluating adjunct faculty members at Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC).
Scope:
This policy applies to all DSCC adjunct faculty members.
Policy:
Adjunct faculty will engage in an evaluation system designed to assess their contributions in their discipline. The evaluation will consist of three elements: student evaluations, coordinator evaluation, and personal reflections on teaching.
- Student evaluations: using the same student evaluation tools and system available to full-time faculty, student evaluations of adjunct faculty will be conducted once per calendar year.
- Coordinator evaluation: the division dean, discipline coordinator or assigned faculty member will conduct an evaluation once per calendar year. If determined necessary, a classroom observation will also be conducted.
- Reflection on teaching: once per calendar year, adjunct faculty members will reflect on aspects of their teaching by filling out the Self-Assessment Using the 7 Principles for Good Practice in Undergraduate Education form.
Evaluations shall be kept by the College in a confidential personnel file and shall be consulted when decisions about any subsequent appointments are made.
Compliance:
All DSCC adjunct faculty members must adhere to this policy.
Definitions:
Adjunct Faculty – DSCC appointees who, on a semester-by-semester, part-time basis, carry out instructional functions. Part-time shall mean less than a full-time teaching load in credit hours per semester as determined by DSCC policy 03:01:01:00 Faculty Guidelines, Appointments, Schedules and Teaching Loads.
